At the Stein Medical Institute, we use a special combination of IPL Bluelight (Blue-U) & Levulan Acid to successfully eliminate acne and correct the damage to skin from acne, the sun and aging.

Our special Acne Treatment Therapy consists of applications of aminolevulinic acid in conjunction with Photodynamic Therapy (using the Blue-U Light Source). It is one the most recent advances in skin rejuvenation for men and women of all ages. Using a Blue–U Light Source, the light activates the peel to create active cells, which help improve skin texture and eliminate acne as well as other types of skin damage.

The Blue-U Light therapy works with Amino levulinic Acid “Levulan” which is a substance that occurs naturally in the skin. Levulan is applied to your face and any other area where you would like skin correction, such as neck and décolleté. While the drug incubates, (varies from 30 minutes on) Levulan identifies all abnormal cells in the skin, such as actinic keritosis, photo damaged skin cells, hyper-pigmentation, etc. After the Levulan incubation period is complete, the peel is activated by exposure to the Blue-U Light source. This is what will cause the damaged tissue to peel off.
